Mother India To Miss India

A Story of Hundred Year Journey of Indian Film Industry

Raja Harishchandra, made in 1913 was the first Indian film. In the year 2013 Indian film industry celebrated its centenary year. Some of the hit movies of the centenary year were Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Shuddh Desi Romance and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ramleela by the name made fun of Hindus; Shudh Desi Romance promoted live-in-relationship, while in Bhag Milkha Bhag there was vulgar choreographing on the words "Hawan Karenge". It has become a ritual to hurt Hindu sentiments in every movie. Surprisingly this is not how the film industry treats other religions. Infact it has become compulsory to have a sufi song or the word "Allah" in atleast one song, it has been widely made to believe that this will make a movie hit. While "Bhanajans" have disappeared from the films altogether.

There were many articles, books and seminars but none covered the aspect of hurting Hindu sentiments. There are off and on protest by some Hindu religious groups but they are generally condemned in the name of freedom of expression and pushed, abused to a corner.

There are lot of other factors also which are slowly taking shape in Indian film industry. One of it is a trend to undermine the nation. On 15th August 2012, Ek Tha Tiger was released which showed that a RAW officer ran away with a Pakistani girl, leaving his job and country, while in 2013, on 15th August, Once Upon a Time was released; which glorified Haji Mastan and Dawood.

It is very common portrayal in Hindi films, that Hindu girl marrying a Muslim and then assisting her in his terrorist activity. Newyork was one such movie. And if one thinks of break being given in Hindi movies to daughters of officials of Indian forces. Sushmita Sen, Neha Dhupia, Priyanka Chopra, Celina Jetley, Gul Panag, Lara Dutta, Preity Zinta, Pooja Batra, Chitrangada Singh, Anuskha Sharma to name a few, one starts imagining things. Add to it the fact that Hindi film industry is controlled by Dawood based in Pakistan as a ISI host, a pattern emerges. When Sushmita Sen, Priyanka Chopra bagged Miss Universe, Miss World title some Indians thought that it is only a MNC ploy to push their cosmetics in India.

There is more to it. Synchronised noise created by Indian film Industry shouting discrimination based on religion when Imran Hashmi can't get a flat in particular housing society and the whole film industry keeping mum when a Pakistani singer Adnan Sami whose father fought against India as a Pakistani soldier buys not one but several flats in Mumbai, illegally; is scary.

In this background one is not surprised when Sanjay Dutt is integral part of Indian film industry despite being convicted for 1993 Mumbai blast and his sister becoming an MP. Naturally this fraternity absorbed Monica Bedi, paramour of another gangster without a whimper. On morality front not much is expected from film industry but the way Sunny Leone , a porn star has been glorified has pushed the industry to new lows. However this was coming sooner than later.

The language and story of films have been on the path of degradation. Slangs, double meaning words which were part of 'C' grade movies have now become prerogative of Superstars.

The political appointment of censor board members and political rewards and their corresponding liberal attitude in promoting western culture in the form of nudity, unnatural sexual relations are points worth pondering.

I wanted to make an intervention in the form of a book in the 101st year of Indian film Industry depicting how film industry is hurting Hindus and India , knowingly or unknowingly.

But was unable to get a funding for the research on the same. Now attempting to the same in the form of column.
